Why I Believe in Healing

The church today needs to embrace the healing that Jesus has purchased for us on the cross.

Matthew 13:53-58 ESV
[53] And when Jesus had finished these parables, he went away from there, [54] and coming to his hometown he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these mighty works? [55] Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? [56] And are not all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?” [57] And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own household.” [58] And he did not do many mighty works there, because of their unbelief.
One of the main problems we face is the church has stopped believing in physical healing and begun to rationalize away God’s desire to heal us.
We say, “I know God can heal if He wants to, but it depends if it’s His will or not.”
When we are rational, faith is greatly affected. Rationalism is really unbelief dressed up to sound like Plato! The rational mind breeds fear, the spiritual mind breeds faith!
We say, “I know God can heal, but I haven’t seen it. I’ll believe it when I see it.”
Without faith there is no healing in this world. That’s why we have to believe God’s word first before we see the results.
Do you have faith that you will go to Heaven?
Yes, then why don’t you have faith for healing? Both were purchased by Jesus on the cross.
WE NEED TO BELIEVE THE BIBLE MORE THAN WE BELIEVE WHAT WE EXPERIENCE!
We read first, and we believe it, then we fight the fight of faith until we see it happen in reality.

SO WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT HEALING?
1. Jesus took stripes on his body for our physical healing.
Matthew 8:16-17 ESV
[16] That evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick. [17] This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: “He took our illnesses and bore our diseases.”
Isaiah 53:4-5
Surely he has borne our griefs
and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed him stricken,
smitten by God, and afflicted.
But he was pierced for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
and with his wounds we are healed.
2. God, by nature is a healer. Jesus demonstrated this.
Exodus15:26 ESV
[26] saying, “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the LORD your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, your healer.”
Acts 10:38
38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.
3. It is God’s will to heal, because he loves us.
Psalm 107:20
He sent out his word and healed them,
and delivered them from their destruction.
Psalm 103:2-3
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits,
who forgives all your iniquity who heals all your diseases,
4. God is not the source of sickness or disease, Satan is, sin is.
John 10:10
10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
Job 2:4-7 ESV
[4] Then Satan answered the LORD and said, “Skin for skin! All that a man has he will give for his life. [5] But stretch out your hand and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse you to your face.” [6] And the LORD said to Satan, “Behold, he is in your hand; only spare his life.” [7] So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD and struck Job with loathsome sores from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head.
Job 42:12 ESV
[12] And the LORD blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning. And he had 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 yoke of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys.
5. Healing works by faith.
If a healing does not take place, the problem most likely lies on earth, not with God’s will.
Matthew 9:20-22 ESV
[20] And behold, a woman who had suffered from a discharge of blood for twelve years came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment, [21] for she said to herself, “If I only touch his garment, I will be made well.” [22] Jesus turned, and seeing her he said, “Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And instantly the woman was made well.
6. God promises to bless us, including with healing:

Exodus 23:25-26
25 You shall serve the Lord your God, and he will bless your bread and your water, and I will take sickness away from among you. 26 None shall miscarry or be barren in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days.
7. Sickness doesn’t glorify God, healing does.

Acts 3:6-10 ESV
[6] But Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!” [7] And he took him by the right hand and raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. [8] And leaping up he stood and began to walk, and entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. [9] And all the people saw him walking and praising God, [10] and recognized him as the one who sat at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, asking for alms. And they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.

8. We are commanded to heal! And healing will follow us.

Luke 10:8-9 ESV
[8] Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you. [9] Heal the sick in it and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’
Mark 16:15-18 ESV
[15] And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. [16] Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. [17] And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; [18] they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
9. There is one exception: something will have to kill us one day.
The Bible says the limit of our lives is from 70-120 years. So anyone who is sick below 120 can be healed and if they die, they can be raised from the dead!
